 Our guest speaker, Mike Molz, will present a high-level view of three separate supply chains which are directly linked to Valentine’s Day.

 Mike will present an overview of 3 separate supply chains: 1) Chocolate – from the jungle to our Sweethearts; 2) Valentine Cards – from forest/recycling centers to our loved-ones; 3) Flowers – from Central America to the vase.

Chocolate:  will discuss sustainability, social and geopolitical concerns.

Valentine Cards: will show a graphic on cyclical nature of greeting card production.

Flowers:  will cover the time critical nature of the shipments and short shelf-life.

Take-Aways

  • We will discuss social and geopolitical considerations within global supply chains
  • Planning and cyclical demand patterns
  • Ttransportation challenges associated with short shelf-life / time critical commodities.

 

MIKE'S BIOGRAPHY

Mike has more than 30 years’ experience in logistics and operations management.  He is a 1986 graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering.  After attending UMR on a full Air Force ROTC scholarship, Mike entered the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer.  He served in several different assignments as a flight line aircraft maintenance officer on F-16A/B/C/D, A-10A, and KC-135R aircraft.  He was deployed to the Iraqi AOR on two separate occasions in the early ‘90’s.  While serving on active duty he earned his Master’s degree in Organizational Management from Webster University, St. Louis.  Mike has held multiple roles in materials and operations management sense leaving the Air Force in 1994.  He has been a Buyer, Senior Buyer, Purchasing Manager, Director of Materials, Production Control Manager, and Plant/Operations Manager.  Mike has been in his current role as the Production Control Manager for CFAN in San Marcos, TX, for over 10 years.  Mike has been a member of APICS for 20 years and holds both the CPIM and CSCP certifications.  He is also an associate instructor for both certifications.  He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Paula, for 35 years.  They have 3 adult daughters and 4 grandchildren.  Mike and Paula live in New Braunfels, TX.
