Why APICS/ASCM?

The question should be Why NOT ASCM (Association of Supply Chain Management). With summer vacations behind us, the new school year just a few weeks away, most of us look forward to fall weather, the fall baseball classic, and football season. Your ASCM South Central Texas (SCTX) Chapter Board transitioned leaders to new roles, held our strategic planning meeting, and are excited about the upcoming fiscal year.
Hello, I’m Rodrigo ‘Rod’ Cantu, your newly elected President. I have served on the ASCM/APICS SCTX Board of Directors for over 10 years. As I reflect and ask why ASCM, I can pinpoint three key aspects that keeps me active. The three attributes include: 1) professional development, 2) networking, and 3) giving back.
Collectively, the BOD brings over 150 years of industry experience. We are committed to the supply chain field and driven to serve others. Several Board members are retired, bring a wealth of experience and knowledge, and deliver ASCM/APICS courses. Others work in diverse companies – manufacturing, service, retail – are adjunct professors at local universities and bring an energy willing to expand what we have to offer our members.
We offer Professional Development Meetings & Plant Tours. These are great opportunities to meet other professionals. We have partnered with ISM (Institute of Supply Management) and ASQ (American Society for Quality). We are excited about our student chapters at UTSA and St. Mary’s University. The ASCM International Conference is scheduled for mid-September in Las Vegas.
ASCM certification programs – CPIM, CSCP, and CLTD – are excellent means of staying current and building your toolbox. We understand our members have busy lives so we try accommodating our course offerings.
So, I leave you with a simple question – Why ASCM? I ask for you to reflect on your past successes and see what it will take to stay relevant for the future. For some, it may be a career transition, for others a means for your next promotion. Whether you are an experienced professional or just starting, give us a chance to help you. Own your growth by becoming active in ASCM. We need your feedback. How can we serve you better? Visit our website https://apics-sanantonio.org/.
